The Proposal Story

• Due to work and other obligations, we had not had an opportunity to have a date for a very long time. So I let Emily know that I had planned a date day for the Sunday of September 22, 2013. The day started with one of Emily’s favorite things, BRUNCH, at The Whitney in Detroit. We had gone to The Whitney before on a date day, so I was hoping she would not suspect anything out of the ordinary.

• After brunch, we headed to Westview Orchard. Emily had been asking me to go to an apple orchard for donuts and cider for literally almost 3 years. I thought the day was a good one to check that off the list. It was also a good excuse to drive north, which was close to our next destination. We had the cider and donuts Emily wanted, but my favorite part was feeding the overly aggressive goats in the petting zoo.

• We then went to the next location, which was a “surprise activity.” I had arranged a personal hot air balloon ride in Oxford, MI with Sky Adventures. As I handed her the Raiders hat I had given her on our second date, to protect her hair from catching on fire, I explained it was my gift to her in return for the sky diving adventure she had given me the previous year.  After we were over 1000+ feet, I asked and she said YES!

• Once we made our way back home, we had dinner reservations at Cuisine in Detroit, which specializes in French cuisine, Emily’s favorite.
